Laura Mather
Partner
Laura is an experienced commercial and residential conveyancer and heads up our Barnstaple property department. She grew up in Ilfracombe, North Devon before reading Law and Criminology at Cardiff University. After her studies, Laura completed her training contract with a large regional firm on the South Coast, qualifying as a solicitor in 2009 into a busy Commercial Property team in Southampton.
Laura spent the next 6 years specialising in insolvency related property matters. She undertook security reviews and the eventual sale of distressed property for a large high street lender and the receivers and administrators appointed on its behalf, and also successfully completed the sale of a number of large debt portfolios. Laura also spent several years advising on various leasehold matters for the owner of multiple marinas across the south coast, acting as the main contact for their estates department.
Having moved back to North Devon in January 2017, Laura turned her attention to more residential conveyancing, acting for clients on the sale and purchase of numerous residential properties, as well as keeping her hand in with commercial property matters.
When Laura joined Samuels Solicitors LLP at their Barnstaple office in October 2018 her focus returned to more commercial matters and Laura has enjoyed building a solid reputation in this field. Laura is well regarded by many of her counterparts in North Devon and prides herself on being approachable and collaborative when it comes to negotiating with fellow solicitors to obtain the best outcome on behalf of her clients. She became a partner with Samuels in 2020.
Drawing on her extensive and varied experience whilst working both on the South Coast and in North Devon, Laura can offer both individual and corporate clients a professional and efficient service covering all aspects of property law, from small residential sales and purchases, to the sale and purchase of land and farm businesses, to larger, more complex commercial landlord and tenant matters.
Whilst working at Samuels, Laura has successfully negotiated the sale of an estate agency business, completed the purchase of a number of industrial units and cafes and has also collaborated with our highly successful litigators on property related disputes, including the completion of lease variations for clients who are affected by the highly publicised area of escalating ground rents.
When Laura isn’t working she is juggling family life with her husband and three children. Her go to escape is either a walk along the beach or listening to music and Laura has been known to go to the occasional Frank Turner gig when there is a babysitter available.
