Judith Thompson named The Times' Lawyer of the Week

Jan Samuel  27-06-2024

The managing partner at Samuels Solicitors, Judith Thompson has been named Lawyer of the Week, in an article published by The Times today.

Judith, along with barristers from 5RB, has been representing Jeremy Vine in a high profile libel case against footballer Joey Barton. Mr Barton has agreed to pay damages of £110,000 and legal costs, as well as publishing apologies on his X (Twitter) account, after making a series of highly defamatory and harassing statements about Mr Vine. Mr Barton will also be making a public statement in the High Court.

In The Times article, Judith talks about her work as a lawyer and how that can be combined with the benefits of living in the South West, but raises the very real problem of second home ownership in the area. She says that properties bought for holiday houses or investments, which sit empty for large parts of the year, can hollow out communities, making it incredibly difficult for young people to get on the housing ladder or to live in areas where they grew up.

Judith says "I am very proud to have been named Lawyer of the Week, which is a great accolade. We have a fantastic team at Samuels who work in the niche and growing areas of libel, breach of privacy and reputation management, and it is fantastic to be recognised in this way."

If you want to bring a slander or libel case, and would like to speak to Judith or one of her team about how we can help, contact us today.
