Flexible Working Rules: Tips for Employers and Employees
Mark Cummings 01-07-2014
As of Monday 30 June, all employees, with at least 26 weeks' service with their employers, have the right to request flexible working arrangements.
Employers have a responsibility to ensure that the request is dealt with "in a reasonable manner" and that the request procedure is concluded within 3 months, which is a relatively tight time period, particularly for larger organisations.
If a request is refused, it could give rise to a claim of discrimination. However, the new ACAS Code of Conduct aims to help employers understand what is required.
As employees now have the right to make flexible working requests, employers willl require a policy for dealing with them.
